Diesel Engine Repairs

Diesel Engine Repair for the Marine and Offshore Industries

Since the 1950s, Metalock has been providing high quality precision engineering services for industry around the world. An important part of this work is the repair and reconditioning of diesel engines in sectors such as marine engineering and the offshore industry. Whether we're working on marine or land-based diesels, we've earned a reputation for fast response to breakdowns and high quality routine maintenance. One of our specialities is in situ repairs that are often much more cost-effective than returning an engine to a workshop – or making a complete replacement.

Overhauling diesel engines in marine applications

If you want to ensure the reliable operation of a power plant (and the vessel it powers) you cannot afford to neglect essential maintenance. It's the key to maintaining peak engine performance and avoiding the cost and inconvenience of breakdowns. If the worst does happen, you'll be pleased to know that we regularly repair marine diesel bedplates and entablatures (often after major failures) and return them to serviceability for much less than a replacement engine would cost.

Repairs at sea, in port, or in dry dock

Whenever or wherever your vessel has broken down, we can help. We regularly do on-site diesel engine repairs at sea, at the quayside, or in dry dock. Our work for marine customers includes the following typical tasks:

  • Assisting marine engineers and equipment manufacturers to overhaul diesel engines.
  • Metalock repairs to engine components and ancillaries.
  • Main bearing transplants (as an alternative to reconditioning).
  • Crankpin machining.
  • Refurbishment of cylinder liner landing areas.
  • Engine line boring.
  • Engine alignment.
  • Fusion welding of cylinder heads.
  • Reconditioning of pistons, valves and seats.

Only technicians with the highest levels of safety awareness are suitable for this training and being approved to do this work.
